The Mega Millions prize dates back to January 3rd, when a player from Hinds County matched all five main numbers and only missed out on the Mega Ball. They had added the Megaplier option so the final payout was a staggering $4 million.
The winner was revealed to be a woman, who said she normally chooses her own numbers, but on this occasion she went for a Quick Pick.
It was the biggest win ever seen in Mississippi, and also earned a Chevron gas station on South Siwell Road in Byram a $5,000 bonus commission for selling the winning ticket.
Claiming their prize on the same day was a man from Clay County, who pocketed the largest jackpot ever seen in the Mississippi Match 5 game.
The Match 5 prize was worth $905,168 and was won on February 7th, having been rolling over since before Christmas.
He told officials that he plays every few weeks and buys several tickets at a time, always Quick Picks.
“Visiting with both winners today was extraordinary,” said Mississippi Lottery President Jeff Hewitt. “We enjoyed learning about their plans for their wins and why they enjoy playing Mississippi Lottery games.
“It’s always a great day when we have winners; but having two record-setting winners claim on the same day was an enjoyable experience for Lottery staff.”
The Mississippi Lottery has only been selling tickets since 2019, but has already created lots of big winners. More draw games have been launched over the years, most recently Cash Pop in November. There are also a host of scratch-off games to enjoy.
