The success started on Tuesday, August 26th, when a lucky ticket holder matched all the main Mega Millions numbers and just missed out on the Mega Ball. They had the 2x multiplier printed on their ticket, so the payout was doubled to $2 million - the largest prize won in the Magnolia State since the game’s upgrade in April 2025.
It was later revealed that the winning ticket had been sold at Pilot Travel Center #586 in Moss Point.
History repeated itself just 24 hours later when someone from the town of Coldwater matched all five main numbers in Powerball. The ticket, bought at Mike’s Food & Gas store, included the Power Play option so the prize was doubled from $1 million to $2 million.
Biggest Powerball Jackpot of 2025
While many Powerball players across the country have come close to landing the jackpot over the past few weeks, nobody has quite been able to match all five main numbers and the Powerball.
Having last been won on May 31st, the jackpot has now climbed beyond $1 billion for the first time this year. It is only the sixth time in history that it has reached this value.
It will continue to roll until there is a winner, so it could happen in the very next draw or it could go all the way to set a new record. The largest jackpot to have been won to date has been the $2.04 billion that went to Edwin Castro from California in November 2022.
If the jackpot is won in Mississippi, it will be the biggest lottery prize to be paid out since the state lottery was established in November 2019. Keep up to date with the latest Powerball Numbers as soon as drawings take place every Monday, Wednesday and Saturday night.
