Huge Win in the State
The lottery ticket was sold at Petal Food Mart in Petal and the lucky winner is now walking away with a grand total of $10 million.
This is only the fifth ever Powerball Double Play jackpot win since the game first began on August 23, 2021. Since then, the top prize has been won in Maryland (in 2021), Florida (twice in 2022) and Kentucky (in 2024). It has now landed in Mississippi leading to a big night of celebration in the state.
Jeff Hewitt, President of the Mississippi Lottery, commented on this saying it is a “milestone for the Mississippi Lottery. Not only do we have our first Powerball Double Play top-prize winner, but this is also the largest lottery win in our state lottery’s history. It’s an exciting day for players and retailers.”
What is Powerball Double Play?
You may be asking how Powerball Double Play works? It is an additional feature to Powerball, where, for an extra $1, players can get another chance to win huge prizes in an additional drawing.
There are no rollovers in Double Play. There are nine fixed prizes - ranging from $7 to $10 million, depending on how many numbers you match.
You have to match five main numbers, plus the Powerball, to get the top prize. It is incredibly hard to do, but the enormous top prize makes it all worth it.
The winning numbers that came up in Monday's draw were 38, 44, 21, 2, 34 and the Powerball 19. Many players across the states tried their luck and there were a total of 27,938 winners who picked up a total of $269,277.
A few players managed to match four of the main numbers to win $500, but no one else, apart from the lucky Mississippian, managed to get all six and become a multi-millionaire!
The player now has 180 days from the draw date to come forward and collect their prize - before it’s lost forever! Make sure to check your tickets to make sure this isn't you.
You can also purchase tickets online to get involved in the next Powerball draw, and, for an additional $1, you too could be in with a chance of winning $10 million in the Double Play feature.
