The lucky player, known as Bo S., purchased his ticket for Saturday’s draw at MJ Food Mart at 3271 Hwy. 18 in Brandon. He checked the numbers afterwards and was shocked to discover that they had all come up.
Other members of his family were even more surprised, with his daughter not even believing that he had won. He quickly made contact with the Mississippi Lottery Corporation to start the claims process.
Bo revealed that he had chosen his numbers based on important dates and the ages of his children. The winning numbers for Saturday’s draw were 6, 9, 12, 16 and 22.
It was only the second Mississippi Match 5 draw since the game was launched. The first draw took place on Thursday April 29th with a jackpot of $50,000. Nobody won the top prize so it rolled over to Saturday.
“This is exciting to have a jackpot winner on the second drawing of Mississippi Match 5,” said Mississippi Lottery Corporation (MLC) President Tom Shaheen. “We are happy to see our new game being enjoyed and that the first jackpot was won on just the second drawing.”
How Match 5 Works
Match 5 is a Mississippi-only game which has draws every Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday. You have to pick five numbers from 1 to 35 to take part, and each entry costs $2.
You win a prize if you match at least two numbers, and the jackpot is yours if you match all five. The jackpot starts at $50,000 and increases every time it is not won.
You can also add a Multiplier option to your ticket when you play for an additional $1 per entry. If you add the Multiplier, any non-jackpot prizes will be increased by two, three, four or five times its initial value. A Multiplier - 2x, 3x, 4x or 5x - is randomly selected alongside each draw.
Go to the Match 5 page to learn more about the game and the prizes you can win. You can check the latest numbers after every draw to find out if you are the next big winner.
Big Mississippi Winners
As well as the Match 5 jackpot claimed by Bo, a number of other big prizes have been paid out to Mississippi winners over the weekend.
A man from Byram landed $10,000 in the Mega Millions draw on Friday April 30th, having purchased his ticket from Byram Gas on S. Siwell Rd. Among the other prize wins were a $5,000 payout that went to a Louisville woman who played a Double Match scratch-off game, and a number of other four-figure scratch-off wins.
