Multi-State Games Heading to Mississippi
This is the first launch of draw games to be confirmed and will come as welcome news for many players who have spent years traveling to neighboring states to buy tickets for Powerball and Mega Millions. January 30th falls on a Thursday so players will be able to purchase tickets for the Powerball draw on Saturday February 1st.
Speaking about the upcoming launch, Tom Shaheen, the president of the Mississippi Lottery Corporation said: "Mississippians will no longer have to cross into neighboring states to participate in these drawing-style games. They will soon have the opportunity for a chance to play big jackpot games four times per week, as well as many secondary prizes."
The news comes barely a week after the announcement that the Mississippi Lottery will launch ahead of schedule on November 25th. Instant games wll be the first lottery products available to Mississippians, but this further announcement has revealed that players won't have to wait much longer to enter their favorite draw games.
Powerball and Mega Millions are responsible for the biggest lottery jackpots anywhere in the world, and players in Mississippi have previously had to travel miles to be in with a chance of landing jackpots worth hundreds of millions - and even billions - of dollars. From January 30th that will no longer be the case; instead the wait will be on to see when Mississippi crowns its first jackpot winner.
More Games to Follow
This will only be the first of many announcements, as the Mississippi Lottery has several more draw games in the works. The lottery plans to eventually offer two other multi-state games - Cash 4 Life and Lotto America - as well as other state-specific games.
The first retailers to sell lottery tickets have been confirmed and the Mississippi Lottery hopes to eventually have in excess of 3,000 stores offering lottery products.
