The Mississippi Lottery Corporation (MLC) announced that one ticket purchased in Gautier in Jackson County matched five numbers in Tuesday’s Mega Millions draw, which would ordinarily land a $1 million prize. However, the winner also added the Megaplier to their ticket, so the prize was doubled to $2 million.
The winning numbers from the draw on Tuesday 9th June were 1, 5, 9, 10, 23 and Mega Ball 22. The winner from Mississippi matched all the numbers except for the Mega Ball. The Megaplier was 2x but even had a bigger one been selected the $1 million prize can only increase to a maximum of $2 million.
MLC President Tom Shaheen said, “We are thrilled to announce our first multi-million-dollar lottery winner in Mississippi in just a little over four months since Mega Millions sales began. We’re looking forward to greeting our first Mississippi Lottery millionaire.”
The retailer that sold the winning ticket will receive a $5,000 bonus for doing so. The name and location of the retailer will be revealed by the MLC once all the necessary validation checks have been completed.
The winner now has 180 days from the date of the winning drawing to claim their prize. Jackpot claims must be filed at the MLC’s headquarters in Flowood, just outside Jackson.
Under the terms set out in the Alyce G. Clarke Mississippi Lottery Law, lottery winners in Mississippi do not have to disclose their identity to the public. Should they choose to go public then the MLC will release details about them, but if they wish to stay anonymous only the location in which the winning ticket was sold will be disclosed.
