Mississippi Lottery Tops $3 Billion in Sales

Mississippi Lottery officials have hailed a ‘significant achievement’ after surpassing $3 billion in total sales. The milestone has been reached in little more than six years, following the launch of the MS Lottery on November 25, 2019.

When sales began, players in the state were only able to enjoy scratch-offs. Draw games arrived in early 2020 in the form of multi-state lotteries Powerball and Mega Millions.

The lottery proved to be a hit with players right from the off, despite the challenges of the Covid-19 pandemic, and more games have been added on a regular basis. Since the start of this year, the MS Lottery has launched its first $30 scratch-off ticket and draw game Millionaire for Life.

‘Strengthen Communities’

The state received a $10,435,751.39 boost from Lottery proceeds in March alone. This brings the current fiscal year's contributions to nearly $98.7 million and pushes the total revenue generated since inception (November 2019) to an impressive $790,442,341.44.

Jeff Hewitt, Mississippi Lottery Corporation President, said: “Crossing the $3 billion mark in sales while approaching $800 million back to the state is a significant achievement for the lottery. This success is driven by our players, retailers, employees and leadership, and every dollar generated helps strengthen communities across our state.”

The first $80 million generated by the MS Lottery every year goes towards infrastructure, with the State Highway Fund used to repair, renovate and maintain highways and bridges throughout Mississippi. Beyond $80 million, any money raised goes towards the Education Enhancement Fund.

As well as benefiting the state, Mississippi Lottery games give players the chance to win incredible prizes. The largest payout so far has been $10 million, which went to a ticket holder who won the Powerball Double Play jackpot in February 2025. A number of other Mississippians have become lottery multimillionaires over the past six years.

Mississippi recently celebrated a run of three consecutive $50,000 wins on Powerball, starting with a Double Play prize of that value on March 28. A ticket purchased at Circle K #270515 in Southaven matched four main numbers and the Powerball in the following draw on March 30, before someone else equaled the feat on April 1 with a ticket bought at Keith’s Super Store #80 in Lucedale.
